We had a great trip to New Zealand North Island...our first evening in Auckland we had a wonderful dinner at the Sky Tower Orbit restaurant while taking in the view of the city. After we picked up our rental car we drove south to Matamata for our Hobbiton Movie Set Tour which was a truly an amazing and memorable experience. Arriving in Rotorua, we embarked on our evening Nocturnal Glow Worm Tour which was a magical time of sights and sounds in a dark forest with our guide. Our most enjoyable tour was our Hawkes Bay Wine and Dine Tour in Napier with Grape Escape. We spent 7 hours touring 6 local wineries sampling various wines with a great group of tour people...truly beyond our expectations!

I experienced a Tailor-made itinerary prepared by Russell Littleford. I found Russell and New Zealand Self Drive Tours one day from browsing the Internet. Once we communicated and I expressed interest in a tour everything fell into place with Russell’s understanding of what I wanted and his experience and diligence of planning a fabulous 9-10 day driving trip for my husband and me. We had a few bumps in the road because of miscommunication on my flight date and time arriving into New Zealand and a Cyclone hitting the Island. Russell and team were 100% there for me to quickly rearrange flights, hotels and tours. I wasn’t expecting this service but was really happy for New Zealand’ self drive tours following through to the very end!
I was happy with everything. I told Russell that I wanted all different types and levels of hotel comfort along the way and that is exactly what we got. I couldn’t be happier. New Zealand is a beautiful country! The sky, the trees, the waterways, the mountains, the roads, the birds and animals. The rooftops. We drove well over a 1000 miles and I don’t think I found one piece of trash. After a while I started looking for the trash. It wasn’t there. You could feel the New Zealanders love of their country by how clean everything was and by how warm and friendly the people are. The people are genuine. Every accommodation had something positive … best sheets??? Hands down Acacia Cliff Lodge! Also, best breakfast and dinner!! XO

It is very difficult to pick just one. If I had to pick one it was the trip with Real NZ to Milford Sound. I recommend taking the bus even if on a self driving tour, to experience all the spectular scenery of the Milford Rd.
Neshia and Melissa were very helpful and answered all emails promptly. The whole experience was excellent, no problems with any of the reservations or accommodations.

We were more impressed by South Island, tho that was heavily influenced by the weather (much better in SI). The scenery was much more dramatic. The roads are so good to drive on in both Islands but especially SI. Very few potholes (maybe 1 or 2 in 4000km) and light traffic and plenty of passing places.
Thankyou for being so flexible and helpful in putting our tour together. Everything ran smoothly, a great variety of types of places we stayed in.

The whole trip was fantastic, and the highlights were the Trans Alpine Train, Queenstown, Mount Cook, and we loved the town of Te Anau. The extra paid to travel Scenic Plus on the train trip was definitely worth it. The scenery while driving was spectacular.
New Zealand Self Drive Tours made all our bookings, including the hire car and Emily-Rose (who organised the holiday for us) was efficient, friendly and went out of her way to help. Thank you Emily.

The South Island is so beautiful and scenic. Lake Tekapo, followed by Milford Sound, would come above others. All the hotels we stayed in were very comfortable and cozy. We had a wonderful coach driven by Bob from Bayes, and he was exemplary Gave us a lot of interesting information throughout our journey, and was very accommodating.
Excellent support by Louise. Very prompt and catered to our needs. We enjoyed ourselves very much, and we thank Fine Tours for making us comfortable, trouble free enjoyable during our tour in the South Island.

It was all fabulous, we loved the South Island. The roads were so well-maintained, and it was impossible to get lost. Beautiful scenery, great accommodation, and good weather.
Thank you for putting it all together for us. Fave accommodation was Quest on Cambridge in Christchurch because a) It was very centrally located and b) It had a washing machine and dryer in the apartment!

We loved everything, including the TransAlpine train, every accommodation, Franz Josef helicopter. Queestown and Milford Sound Tour, we also decided to fly back 😍 and then the magical Mt Cook experience🥰🥰🥰. The most comfy bed was at the Novotel at Christchurch Airport 😁

Our favourite parts of our trip were the 40 min Heli flight landing on Franz Josef glacier, as it was an incredibly exciting and stunning experience. The drive down the West Coast for the beautiful scenery, the mud bath in Rotorua is a must-do, fabulous feeling. The accommodation in Hokitika, as we had an ocean view room, plus the lovely apartment in Picton, were our top picks.
Overall we had a fantastic trip. Lucy was excellent at helping us with our ambitious itinerary. Her suggestions for various activities and helping us navigate a packed schedule by including some shorter driving days made our holiday one of the best ever! Thank you Lucy.

We enjoyed Kauri Coast and Paihia the most I’d say though the entire itinerary was great! The Waipoua Lodge was exceptional.
Our trip with NZ Self Driving Tours was wonderful. The staff did an amazing job working with us to design our trip and everything went smooth and according to the agenda. Response times to all questions/concerns were lightning fast and helpful. I cannot imagine seeing more of the North Island any other way! Mahalo from Hawaii!
